The Faculty of Science, Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research is looking
for a

*Full Professor of Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (1.0 fte) Vacancy
number: 17-379*
Key responsibilities

The research in the Systems Biomedicine & Pharmacology division builds on a
strong history in pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PK-PD) computational
modelling, and more recently, quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP). This
research line aims to further on developing innovative QSP approaches.

To that end, a position is available for a full professor in Systems
Pharmacology, to maintain and further develop the research profile and
reputation of this research at LACDR in that direction, together with the
fellow principal investigators.
Current research lines at the Cluster of Systems Pharmacology includes the
following research themes:

   - Translational pharmacology; primary focus on experimental and
   model-based approaches the CNS therapeutic area;
   - Clinical pharmacology; model-based dose regimen optimization in
   special patient populations;
   - Quantitative Systems Pharmacology; QSP approaches in drug development
   (oncology, infectious diseases, cardiac safety);
   - Translational metabolomics; metabolomics in patients and
   patient-derived in-vitro models (organ-on-a-chip) to study disease
   mechanisms and pharmacology;
   - Systems biophysics; novel biophysics concepts to study immunology and
   metabolism.

Selection Criteria

   - Experienced in quantitative modelling applied to (systems)
   pharmacology approaches;
   - Team player, dedicated supervisor and experienced in working with
   multi-disciplinary research teams;
   - Knowledge and ideally experience in state-of-the-art experimental
   approaches relevant to pharmacology and systems pharmacology;
   - Strong and established research lines and vision complementary to
   existing research lines.
   - A clear vision on how to further develop experimental capabilities in
   conjunction with computational QSP approaches, in the context of
   strengthening the collaborations within the cluster with the research li=
nes
   on translational metabolomics and organ-on-a-chip approaches;
   - Proven ability or likely success to attract external research funding
   from funding agencies and industry;
   - Experienced in teaching;
   - Well established international network and research profile with a
   number of relevant high-quality publications;
   - Established career in academia or industry.

Research at our Faculty and the LACDR

The Faculty of Science is a world-class faculty where staff and students
work together in a dynamic international environment. It is a faculty where
personal and academic development are top priorities. Our people are driven
by curiosity to expand fundamental knowledge and to look beyond the borders
of their own discipline; their aim is to benefit science, and to make a
contribution to addressing the major societal challenges of the future.
The research carried out at the Faculty of Science is very diverse, ranging
from mathematics, information science, astronomy, physics, chemistry and
bio-pharmaceutical sciences to biology and environmental sciences. The
research activities are organised in eight institutes. These institutes
offer eight bachelor’s and twelve master’s programmes. The =
faculty has
grown strongly in recent years and now has more than 1,300 staff and almost
4,000 students. We are located at the heart of Leiden’s Bio Science=
 Park,
one of Europe’s biggest science parks, where most companies have it=
s focus
on drug research. For more information, see

The Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) is a centre of
excellence for multidisciplinary research on drug discovery and
development. At LACDR, we develop innovative scientific concepts in
fundamental and translational research underlying the discovery and
optimization of drugs, and personalised medicines. We aim to optimise the
route to novel drugs that are both efficacious and safe, and therefore our
research focuses on drug and target discovery, bio-therapeutics and systems
pharmacology. State-of-the-art expertise and infrastructures ensure that we
are strategically positioned in (inter)national collaborations, thus
further strengthening the development of novel concepts and their
application in a clinical and industry environment. Our research is formed
into three research clusters: Drug & Target Discovery, BioTherapeutics, and
Systems Pharmacology. The Cluster of Systems Pharmacology focusses on
personalised medicine and the development of novel systems-based approaches
in translational and clinical pharmacology. LACDR has established close
collaborations within the Faculty of Science (Leiden Institute of
Chemistry, Institute of Biology Leiden), the Leiden University Medical
Centre (LUMC) and the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR). Within the
context of the so-called Medical Delta we have established alliances with
LUMC and Erasmus MC in the area of translational epidemiology and the
integration of metabolomics and genomics in large-scale longitudinal
cohorts. More information about the LACDR can be found at
https://www.universiteitleiden.nl/en/science/drug-research.
